Fatal Motorcycle Crash on SB Rte 509 Near Myers Way S

Seattle, WA (September 15, 2025) – A deadly hit-and-run crash on Friday night, September 12, claimed the life of a motorcyclist near the South Park neighborhood.

The Washington State Patrol reported that the crash happened around 11:39 p.m. on southbound State Route 509 near Myers Way South. A 50-year-old motorcyclist attempted to merge lanes when a speeding vehicle struck him.

The motorcycle rider died at the scene. Authorities believe the suspect’s car was a white Toyota or similar model that sustained damage before fleeing the area.

During the collision, another vehicle, a Toyota Camry driven by a 44-year-old man, was also struck. The driver was not injured, but his vehicle was destroyed in the crash.

Troopers closed the roadway for nearly five hours while investigating the scene. Detectives are now searching for the suspect driver and reviewing evidence. The investigation remains ongoing.

Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Seattle

Motorcycle riders face greater risks on Seattle’s highways compared to other motorists. With less protection than cars, even minor crashes can result in devastating outcomes.

In this case, a hit-and-run driver compounded the tragedy by leaving the scene, making accountability harder for the victim’s loved ones.

Motorcycle accidents often lead to significant consequences, such as:

  • Severe injuries including head trauma and spinal cord damage
  • High medical bills and extended recovery time
  • Emotional trauma for families who lose loved ones
  • Financial losses from lost income and property damage

It’s important to work with a wrongful death attorney who understands motorcycle accidents in Seattle. An experienced legal advocate can investigate the collision, identify responsible parties, and pursue fair compensation for victims or surviving family members.

Hit-and-run crashes present unique challenges because the at-fault driver may never be found. However, victims may still have options for recovery through uninsured motorist coverage or other claims.
